Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster continued to get treatment for lower back stiffness and could start Saturday if he responds to treatment.
Dempster was scratched from Monday's game against the Nationals because of the discomfort. The Cubs need a starter on Saturday for the second game of their series against the Pirates.
"We'll keep him Mariners Felix Hernandez Jersey day to day," Cubs manager Mike Quade said of Dempster.
With the injury, the Cubs now have had all five starting pitchers miss at least one Casey Blake Jersey turn.
Cubs infielder Jeff Baker had to leave Tuesday's game after the third inning because of back spasms.
